Sheriff Kurt Picknell has 32 years of law enforcement experience and has served at every rank prior to becoming Sheriff, along with specialty
teams and assignments. Sheriff Picknell has received the department Employee of the Year Award, Meritorious Service Award and
Life Saving Award. Sheriff Picknell’s education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Management, Master of Business Administration (MBA
) with a concentration in Public Administration, Northwestern University - School of Police Staff and Command, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI
) National Academy and the National Sheriffs’ Institute.
Sheriff Picknell is currently serving on the State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB
) and is an instructor at the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Command College. Kurt was previously a State Board of Directors member for Special Olympics Wisconsin and received the 2019 State of Wisconsin Law Enforcement Torch Run Dale Brunner Hall of Fame Award. Sheriff Picknell serves on the Executive Board for the Walworth County Child Advocacy Center (CAC
) and is a member of the Walworth County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee (CJCC
). Kurt is the Past President of the FBI
National Academy Associates Wisconsin Chapter, Past President of the Elkhorn Area High School Scholarship Foundation, and previously served as a volunteer fire fighter
for the Elkhorn Area Fire Department.
