Biography
Sheriff Gerber has over 27 years of law enforcement experience and served in many positions within our agency, including Patrol Deputy, Detective, Lieutenant, Captain of Support Services, Captain of the Patrol Division, and most recently, Undersheriff. Sheriff Gerber has served on many specialty teams, including SWAT Team, Dive Team, Honor Guard, Bike Patrol, Background Investigations, and Field Training Officer. Sheriff Gerber served as the Chair of the Walworth County Traffic Safety Commission and administered the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team, Fugitive Task Force, Gang Unit, Motor Carrier Enforcement,
Boat Patrol, Town Liaison Program, Sex Offender Registry Unit, and many other specialty teams. Sheriff Gerber has received numerous awards throughout his career, including meritorious service with valor.
Sheriff Gerber holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) Command Institute, and the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Sheriff Gerber is certified by the Wisconsin Department of Justice as a Unified Tactics Instructor and served as an instructor at Gateway Technical College for many years, where he instructed both in-service and police academy courses. He is a past State Director for the Special Olympics State Torch Run Council and recipient of the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Torch Run Dale Brunner Hall of Fame award. Sheriff Gerber is also a past Director for the Wisconsin Field Training Officers Association and has also participated as one of the Wisconsin Riders for the Police Unity Tour.
