Walworth County Government Center Building Access

For the protection of our customers and employees, Walworth County has put into place more controlled access to the individual Departments of the Walworth County Government Center.  This action is warranted by the CDC and State of Wisconsin’s call for greatly enhanced social distancing. The Walworth County Government Center located at 100 W. Walworth Street, Elkhorn, remains open to the public. 

Public access to the Government Center is restricted to the main lobby entrances at the center of the building.  A Customer Service Center has been placed there which will screen customers and serve as a broadly-spaced waiting area.  Access to departments can then be monitored and controlled such that only one guest is in a department at a time.  Please be aware that these necessary steps may increase total wait time.

Additionally, screening criteria based on that developed by the CDC will be used to determine those individuals who may be allowed to conduct face-to-face business.   Individuals who do not pass the standard CDC screening questions will not be able to be provided access to departmental areas and will be asked to leave the building.

Although County services continue to be provided to the public, if there is not an immediate need for an in-person visit, individuals are asked to conduct their business at a later time.  Additionally, individuals are strongly encouraged to obtain information or conduct business via telephone, email, or through the Walworth County website at www.co.walworth.wi.us.   A directory of County telephone numbers and email addresses is also available on the website. Note also that multiple departments are taking calls and scheduling appointments for your convenience.

Also note that the Walworth County Treasurer, located in the Government Center, previously announced modified office procedures that remain in effect:

  • The public is encouraged to pay taxes and request information through the mail, email or by using electronic options on the office’s website, at https://www.co.walworth.wi.us/214/Treasurer.
  • Payments by check or money order will be accepted in the Treasurer’s Office drop box located in the parking lot of the Government Center building.   A receipt will be mailed to the tax payer as written confirmation of your payment.
  • For those unable to use those methods, the office will offer limited, in-person hours to accept payments or records requests from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
