Lakeland School Volunteer Opportunities
Lakeland School is the County's school for students with special needs. If you enjoy working with youth, and have patience and experience working with students with intellectual and physical disabilities then we would gladly accept you as a Lakeland School volunteer.
- Classroom Aid
- Landscape Volunteer
- Library Assistant
- Listen to Early Readers
- Specialty Classroom Assistant
Assist teachers within the classroom with duties as assigned. Days and times are flexible within the school day.
- Tutoring students
- Assisting students with classroom activities or during specialty classes (art, music, physical education, etc.)
- Preparation of classroom materials
- Conducting small group activities
Do you have a green thumb? If you do, then we could use your help to maintain the grounds and landscaping at Lakeland School.
Help students use the library at Lakeland School 1 to 2 days per week, Monday through Friday, during school hours. On the job training provided.

- Help students find books
- Other duties as assigned
Listen to students, just learning how to read, and assist them with pronunciation and offer encouragement. Therapy dogs are welcome and are a wonderful tool for encouraging reading.
Offer encouragement as early readers learn how to read from books.
Choose an area of expertise that you have, and help students in the classroom during school hours. Specialties include:
- Arts and Crafts
- Computer Lab
- Physical Education
- Technical Education
- Assist teachers as needed in the classroom
