The Hearing and Vision Department works with Lakeland School students and staff across all grade levels. We provide leadership and training, as well as collaborate with others to enhance and guide appropriate services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing and/or who are blind or have low vision.
Beginning in the 2017 to 2018 school year, Lakeland School students in specific grade levels, as well as new and exiting students, participate in vision and hearing screenings. Students with undetected hearing and vision difficulties can experience lifelong effects, including:
Deficits in speech and language
Reading and writing difficulties
Many other academic and social implications
Ongoing screening is a very important tool for awareness and detection.
