Middle School Department

Group of middle schoolers

The Middle School department consists of students ages 11 to 14 (6th to 8th grade). The students work on core academics in the areas of:

  • Essential Life Skills
  • Communication
  • Math
  • English Language Arts (Reading)
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Priority Topics

Technology integration, motor based learning, and hands on learning tools are prioritized in the Middle School department. Starting in 6th grade, students' educational experience is expanded to include community experiences, volunteer opportunities, and the enhancement of general independence skills in Essential Life Skills. Middle School's Science program also features new topics such as robotics and human growth and development.

Kids outside the libraryBuddy Program

Lakeland's Middle School students are paired with a local school in our Buddy Program. Throughout the year students have the opportunity to participate in pen pal, FaceTime, and face-to-face activities in order to foster positive peer relationships with our partnering school in Lake Geneva.

Middle School students are given the opportunity to participate in a Dance Team, as well as participating in:
