Mission Statement

"As members of the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, we pledge to preserve and enhance the quality of life within the community through efficient, effective and professional law enforcement services."

Hello, I’m Sheriff Kurt Picknell. Pictured with me is Undersheriff Kevin Williams (right).  Although the position and authority of the Sheriff extends from ancient origins, the office of Sheriff is created by the Wisconsin Constitution.  The specific duties of the Sheriff are also set forth by State Statute and Administrative Code.

The citizens of Walworth County are proud of the complex professional law enforcement and public safety services provided on a daily basis.  The dedication, training and cooperation are common place.  These duties occur 24 hours per day 7 days a week requiring the dedication found within this website.

The natural resources available in Walworth County make it a desired area to live.  Many tourists or seasonal guests ultimately become full-time residents of the county.  This development increases the demand for many services including law enforcement.  We embrace the challenge to maintain the quality of life that we enjoy.  As Sheriff, my duties of providing professional law enforcement and public safety services directly impacts this desired area to live or visit.

I am exceedingly proud to announce the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG) awarded full accreditation status to the Walworth County Sheriff's Office on December 11, 2017.  We are the third Sheriff's Office in Wisconsin to obtain this prestigious law enforcement status.  The announcement comes after more than two years of preparation for members of the WILEAG assessment team to spend three days at the Sheriff's Office in November.  The team examined all aspects of the Sheriff's Office including policies and procedures and management operations.  The assessors reviewed policies and procedures for compliance with 212 standards.  The Sheriff's Office voluntarily submitted to this accreditation effort and must show proof of compliance with the standards which is done through file review, interviews with staff, on site tours and job shadowing with Sheriff's Office employees.  We successfully met this threshold with 100% compliance.  The accreditation award demonstrates to the community that the Sheriff's Office promotes law enforcement excellence within established professional law enforcement standards.  For more information, please visit the WILEAG website at http://www.wileag.info.

Continual self improvement and organizational improvement will be my theme.  The Sheriff's Office celebrates 179 years of service and I am honored to be your 43rd Sheriff.

Feel free to call our department or email us.
