Commonly Asked Questions

Q. Will I need to share a room with someone else?
A. No. All of our rooms are licensed for one person only. You also will have your own bathroom with a toilet and sink. There is a separate tub room with a whirlpool and a shower on each household.

Q. Can I eat my meals in my room?
A. As long as you are not considered to be at risk for choking, you may eat in your room. However, we recommend that you join the other fourteen residents in your household at meal times for socialization.

Q. What if I'm hungry between meals?
A. There are a variety of snacks available in the household kitchens: cookies, crackers, cheese, peanut butter, bread, ice cream, etc. You are welcome to help yourself or ask staff for assistance with obtaining snacks.

Q. What should I pack?
A. You will be assisted with getting dressed every day, so bring comfortable clothing, shoes and slippers with non-skid soles, pajamas or nightgowns and a robe. We also recommend you bring an electric razor. Toiletries, such as toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, etc, are provided. If you prefer a specific brand, however, you may want to bring it with you. Sheets, blankets and pillows are also provided.

Q. Is laundry provided?
A. Yes. Personal laundry is done by the facility and is included in the daily rate. However, if you do not want your clothes marked with your name and room number by our laundry, we recommend you have a family member pick up your laundry. Please note the State regulations require that clothing be washed in hot water at our facility.

Q. Will there be a TV in my room?
A. There is a TV in the living room of your household. There is satellite hook up in your room, which is included in the daily rate, but you must supply the TV for your room unless we have a donated TV available for use.

Q. May I bring in my recliner from home?
A. Lakeland Health Care Center provides a hospital bed, nightstand, dresser, wardrobe for hanging clothes and chair for each room. Many of our residents bring their own lounge chairs/recliners for their rooms. Please note that all furniture must be at least six inches away from the heating register.

Q. How often will I be seen by therapy?
A. Lakeland Health Care Center has a contract with RehabCare for physical, occupational and speech therapy. If your physician orders one or all of these therapies, you will be seen five times per week by each therapy ordered.

Q. What are visiting hours?
A. Your family and friends are welcome to visit any time. However, the front doors are unlocked between 7:30 AM and 8:00 PM daily.

Q. What types of activates are provided?
A. There is a variety of activities offered: card groups, baking, bingo, karaoke, church services, shopping and lunch outings are just a few. Lakeland Health Care Center is dedicated to providing resident directed care and our recreation staff regularly survey our residents regarding their programming choices. You will find a monthly activity calendar in your room and daily activities written on the board in your dining room.

Q. Am I free to leave the facility for family outings?
A. Yes. The only restrictions are if you are here for short-term rehab and Medicare is paying for your stay, you then must participate in all scheduled therapy and cannot be on an overnight visit. If you are paying privately or have Medicaid, overnight visits away from the facility are permitted.

Q. Is there a room available where my family can come to celebrate birthdays/holidays with me?
A. Yes. To reserve the Craft Room, Activity Room or Meditation Room, please contact one of the recreation staff.

Q. May I bring my medication from home?
A. Generally, the answer is no. Your medication will be ordered through the pharmacy that we contract with. However, some medications may be allowed from home, so please speak to your nurse about this for specifics.

Q. Do you allow pets?
A. Pets are allowed to visit as long as they are up to date with their vaccinations and kept on a leash.

Q. Can I get my hair done while I'm there?
A. We have a beautician who works three days per week. There is a minimal charge for her services. However, your hair will be washed with your bath at no additional charge.

Q. Can my family eat meals with me?
A. Yes. Meal tickets may be purchased at the Reception Desk. Lunch is $6.00 and must be purchased before 11:30 AM. Supper is $4.00 and must be purchased before 4:30 PM. A twenty-four (24) hour notice is required for parties greater than two (2). Meals may be eaten in the sunroom, Craft Room, core area or Activity Room.

Q. What are banking hours?
A. Banking can be done at the Reception desk from 7:00 AM-8:00 PM, Monday through Friday and 8:00 AM-8:00 PM on weekends and holidays.

Q. How do I pay for Beauty Shop services?
A. We ask that you deposit some money in a resident account. Funds are automatically deducted when you receive hair care. Gift certificates are also available for purchase from the Reception Desk.

Q. What about outside appointments?
A. We ask that any outside appointments be made by LHCC staff. The reasoning for this is to ensure that the appointments are not interfering with other potential appointments and to make sure that appropriate transportation is arranged.

Please feel free to ask any staff member if you have any further questions.
