Immunization Clinics
The Public Health unit offers immunization against childhood and adult vaccine-preventable diseases at clinics located throughout the county. This service is available to all Walworth County residents regardless of income. There is a small administration fee for vaccines given to children age 3 and over and to adults. There is no charge for MA/BadgerCare clients. No one is denied a vaccine because of inability to pay.   Influenza and Pneumoccocal vaccines are offered every fall to people over age 50 and to those with chronic health conditions. As of January 1, 2009 all immunization clinics will be held at the Elkhorn location.  Go to list of immunization clinic dates and times.
Requirements for students
Students in Wisconsin are required by law to show proof of immunity to certain diseases in order to attend school. This requirement is for students who attend day care centers and nursery schools and elementary, middle, junior and senior high schools.
Waiving the requirements for students
If the student's parent, legal guardian or legal custodian submits a written statement to the school or day care center objecting to the immunization for reasons of health, religion or personal conviction, the immunization requirement is waived.

Important information about immunizations

  • To receive an immunization, a person must bring a written immunization record.
  • Spanish interpreters are available at all clinics.
  • Children under age 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present or have written permission to be vaccinated.
  • No appointment is necessary.

Immunization is important
Immunization is one of the most important ways to protect individuals and communities against serious infectious diseases and their consequences. Widespread immunization has virtually eliminated many serious diseases such as polio, measles, meningitis caused by haemophilus influenza type B (Hib), congenital rubella, diphtheria, and smallpox. These diseases were once responsible for millions of infections and thousands of deaths each year.
For more information about vaccines, see the National Immunization Program's website at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/
