Association
for the Prevention of Family Violence (APFV)
APFV provides
confidential services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
free of charge. For assistance call 262-723-4653.
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. After-hours
crisis calls are forwarded to DHHS.
APFV services include:
Crisis Line
APFV professional staff respond to crisis calls regarding
domestic violence and sexual assault. After-hours crisis calls are
forwarded to DHHS.
Counseling
APFV advocates help victims to develop safety plans,
discuss options for change, and provide emotional support.
Advocacy
APFV provides assistance to victims in obtaining outside
services and networking with agencies in the community.
Public Education
APFV provides the community with quality education and
information regarding domestic abuse and sexual assault.
Legal Advocacy
APFV provides assistance to victims in understanding legal
issues arising from domestic abuse and sexual assault. Staff will assist
in the completion of restraining orders and provide emotional support
throughout the process. APFV also provides support to victims involved
in other legal proceedings such as divorce and custody disputes.
Children's Services
APFV assists children who are affected by domestic abuse in
their homes by offering individual counseling, support groups, and
public education.
Information and Referral
APFV provides information about services available to deal
with domestic abuse and sexual assault. APFV will provide referrals for
services such as emergency shelter.
Women's Support Groups
APFV conducts weekly support groups for women who are
current or former victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. The
group explores issues such as safety, self-esteem, assertiveness,
self-sufficiency, and life without violence. Two groups meet each week:
a Domestic Violence Support group and a Sexual Assault support group.
Transitional Housing Project
APFV works with the Walworth County Housing Authority to
place participants in safe environment in sites throughout the county.
The project seeks to provide victims of domestic abuse and their
children with safe and affordable housing for up to 24 months.
Participants are required to be involved in other supportive services
such as counseling, employment assistance, education assistance, Child
Support, legal advocacy, and self-sufficiency.
Batterer's Intervention Program
APFV professional staff present information and teach
participants methods of ending abusive and controlling behaviors. |
